“Oakland educators believe our children and families deserve community schools that are safe, stable, and equipped to meet their whole needs. As we head into this school year, join us to support our vision to protect and strengthen our local schools – at a time when public education is under attack nationally.

Our Vision:
Safe, Stable, Racially Just Community Schools

We can fight Trump locally by continuing to recruit and retain high quality teachers, ensuring our kids and families have ongoing access to amazing educators who support both academic success and social-emotional needs over the long-term.

Recruit & Retain Quality Teachers

OEA’s vision is to ensure our local public schools remain fully and consistently staffed with nurses, social workers, speech pathologists, and psychologists who support the whole needs of Oakland students during these frightening times and beyond.

Fully Staffed Schools
to Support Our Children’s Whole Needs

OEA wants current students and future generations of kids to continue to have an amazing, stable learning experience. Smaller class sizes in the earliest grades will expand focused instruction, reduce opportunity gaps, and build a stronger foundation in core skills.

Classroom Stability

Elementary educators provide critical instruction during formative developmental years for the youngest learners.  Our youngest learners need teachers who have adequate preparation time to deliver high-quality, grade-appropriate instruction in every classroom.

Ensuring Teachers Have Time to Plan

How Are Your Teachers Fighting For Safe, Stable, and Racially Just Community Schools?

Oakland teachers are the lowest paid in the region, with the highest turnover in the county.

Meanwhile, OUSD has more expensive, high-level administrators than a District three times their size, and spends over 20% of its budget on expensive contractors - more than double what similar districts spend.

Something needs to change.

OEA has repeatedly submitted proposals to lower class sizes, strengthen special education, and improve school safety to improve student outcomes. Take a look at what we are fighting for.
